After lots of obstacle the organizer of the festival Woodstock 50 has finally announced that the festival has been canceled after a series of production issues, venue relocations and artist cancellations just two weeks before it was scheduled to begin.
The three-day planned American music festival that was originally scheduled to be held on August 16–18, 2019 to celebrate it’s 50th anniversary.
“We are saddened that a series of unforeseen setbacks has made it impossible to put on the festival we imagined with the great lineup we had booked and the social engagement we were anticipating,” said Michael Lang, festival co-founder.
The festival was mainly facing the problem for finding a new location for the event in the Merriweather Post Pavilion in Maryland last week. Jay-Z, Dead & Company and John Fogerty announced that they wouldn’t perform at the new location.
Paul McCartney, Billy Joel and a reunited Led Zeppelin was set as headlining performers at the festival, but except Led Zeppelin none of those artists appeared in Woodstock 50’s final lineup.
“I would like to encourage artists and agents, who all have been fully paid, to donate 10% of their fees to HeadCount or causes of their choice in the spirit of peace,” saying this Lang added that,
“Woodstock remains committed to social change and will continue to be active in support of HeadCount’s critical mission to get out the vote before the next election. We thank the artists, fans and partners who stood by us even in the face of adversity. My thoughts turn to Bethel and its celebration of our 50th Anniversary to reinforce the values of compassion, human dignity, and the beauty of our differences embraced by Woodstock.”
The original Woodstock, a festival pushing the message of peace, love and music, was a seminal, groundbreaking event in 1969 that featured performances by Jimi Hendrix, the Grateful Dead, Joan Baez, the Who and other iconic acts.
The festival’s ticket sales were delayed as reports surfaced claiming that the festival lacked the required permits.
