UK businesses are worried about the skills gap that could be caused as a consequence of tough immigration policies post-Brexit. The skills gap could harm businesses across the country.
Seventy five per cent of businesses are already starting to experience recruitment difficulties. UK citizens just don’t have certain skills that have, until now, been covered by foreign labour.
A harsh visa and work permit in the post-Brexit UK could prove to be very harmful for British companies because they would struggle to find the workforce with the skills needed for the job amongst the British workforce.
The UK Government are still to present a clear outline of their immigration policy once the country leaves the EU. Businesses are asking for clarification so they can start planning for the future and adapting to the new labour market.
“The simple fact is that many businesses can’t afford to wait much longer for a clear UK immigration policy to emerge,” said Adam Marshall, director general of the British Chamber of Commerce.
EU leaders have also voiced their concern over the UK not making their intentions clear and are also asking for clarification on the matter of their immigration policy post-Brexit.
“It is important for us for Britain to make concrete its ideas,” said a spokesperson for Angela Merkel, who will be meeting with the British prime minister.
