For this reviewer, the concert by The Hollies was an evening of pure nostalgia; a musical journey through childhood and adolescence. Classics such as “Stop, Stop, Stop,” “I’m Alive,” “Jennifer Eccles” and “King Midas In Reverse” were the order of the day and the band, consisting of original members Tony Hicks (guitar and vocals) and Bobby Elliot (drums), plus vocalist, Peter Howarth, guitarist, Steve Lauri, bassist, Ray Stiles and keyboards player, Ian Parker, sang and played with their customary skill and enthusiasm. The only problem was that, through no fault of their own, the group had to perform without any keyboards for much of the evening (the wonders of modern technology!). For me personally, the highlight was the close, with the powerful and emotionally-charged “The Air That I Breathe” being followed by the encore of “Long Cool Woman In A Black Dress,” for which Peter Howarth encouraged us all to get on our feet (not that we needed any prompting!) This rocking finale was a fitting finish to a pleasant trip down memory lane.
