Taylor Swift broke down in tears as she opened up about her last year’s sexual assault case against former radio DJ David Mueller while giving an emotional speech at Tuesday’s Tampa concert in US.
The 28-years-old singer has thanked fans for their support and spoke about the importance of believing survivors and thanked fans for their support.
Last year, in August 2017, Taylor accused DJ David Mueller on Sexual assault saying he had grabbed her backside during a pre-concert picture opportunity in 2013 and now she was playing a sold-out concert at the Raymond James Stadium in Florida exactly one year after the case ended.
“A year ago I was not playing in a stadium in Tampa, I was in a courtroom in Denver, Colorado,” Swift bravely began. “This is the day the jury sided in my favor and said that they believed me.”
“I guess I just think about all the people that weren’t believed and the people who haven’t been believed, and the people who are afraid to speak up because they think they won’t be believed,” Swift continued.
“I just wanted to say I’m sorry to anyone who ever wasn’t believed because I don’t know what turn my life would have taken if somebody didn’t believe me when I said something had happened to me,” she added.
The “Look What You Made Me Do” singer described her days in court as “demoralizing” and was widely praised for her defiant responses during the trial, which she said she heard was the “most amount of times the word ‘ass’ has ever been said in Colorado federal court.”
On Tuesday night, Swift thanked fans for sharing their own “hard times” with her when she meets them, adding, “I just want to say I’m so happy to see you and to have you and to know you through the ups and the downs of my life. So, thank you for everything”.
