When> 14 Sept to 15 Dec
Where> Arnolfini, Narrow Quay, Bristol
What> This autumn, Arnolfini, located in Bristol’s historic floating harbour, hosts ‘Still I Rise’, a major exhibition exploring the history/herstory of resistance movements and alternative forms of living through a gendered perspective.
‘Still I Rise’ looks at resistance across the world, from the domestic sphere to large-scale uprisings, spanning the late 19th century to the present.
With over 100 exhibits by some 70 practitioners, ‘Still I Rise’ presents the way in which resistance has been approached by visual artists, writers, architects, designers and activists, working as individuals or in groups. It brings together work from around the world, alongside new commissions and work that draws on Bristol’s legacy as a hotbed for grassroots initiatives. At the heart of the exhibition is the idea of collaboration, community building and egalitarianism. Alongside ‘Still I Rise’, Arnolfini will host a rich programme of performances, screenings, discussions, and workshops – creating a site for participation and a platform for multiple voices.
