Legally Blonde is preparing for another sequel after more than 17 years of it’s original release, starring Reese Witherspoon who is in talks to reprise her role as Elle Woods in “Legally Blonde 3”.
The Oscar winner will return to screens as upbeat lawyer Elle Woods with the original film’s creative team of Kirsten “Kiwi” Smith and Karen McCullah set to return with a new script which is currently in the works.
The plot is being kept under wraps but Deadline reports that it will be in the spirit of the first film and be more about female empowerment.
According to a report, MGM is about to close a deal which would see the starlet bending and snapping her way back onto the screens, as well as producing the film.
The female-driven “Legally Blonde” and its 2003 sequel has continued to find new audiences through home release and the successful stage musical that continues to tour across North America. Together, both films have grossed over $260 million on relatively modest budgets.
The film will be producing by Witherspoon, the “Big Little Lies” actress, through her Hello Sunshine company who was in the politically themed sequel “Legally Blonde 2: Red, White & Blonde,” which failed to impress critics but still managed to rake it in at the box office.
“I actually think it’s kind of great right now because we’re talking about women in politics and how important it is to get more women in office,”Witherspoon said in 2015. “And I think it’d be kind of a cool thing to have her be a Supreme Court justice or someone who runs for office.”
