While the UK remains in lockdown to reduce the spread of coronavirus, Joe Wicks has become a firm fixture in many households during his daily PE classes designed to keep the nation fit whilst they are stuck at home.
Since schools have been forced to close due to the coronavirus, Joe Wicks has stepped up to ensure that children and parents alike are keeping active by hosting a daily PE class from his home in London.
As parents work from home and look for ways to keep their children entertained, these classes have become an easy way to introduce some much-needed exercise into their daily routine.
During his first live broadcast, nearly a million people joined in to take part in the class, and by the end of the first week, his videos had received 20 million views!
Wicks, who is also known as The Body Coach, started his career on YouTube in 2011 by posting short 15-second mirco cooking videos to his channel which then went viral on social media.
Speaking to The Big Issue, Wicks said:
“I’ve been so amazed at how many people have taken part. I know there’s millions of kids today that right after that workout will have been feeling calm and positive…
“I’m seeing families for the very first time exercising together and that’s really powerful role modelling, your parents exercising with you, being silly, being a bit childish and feeling good. I think this is going to have long, long-lasting benefits for these children and families.
