Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) has been successfully performed Chandrayaan-2 lunar mission on Second Try from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre at Sriharikota. Scientists broke into cheers, shook hands and exchanged greetings at this tremendous success.
ISRO announced on Friday that Chandrayaan-2 has completed its second Earth-bound orbit maneuver on July 26 at 0108 hours (IST) and its coursing through space, just as planned.
The spacecraft has entered the Earth’s orbit, where it will stay for 23 days before it begins a series of maneuvers that will take it into lunar orbit.
Carrying a “billion dreams” in a giant leap for the country’s ambitious low-cost space programme and prestigious mission ever. If successful, will also make India the fourth country after Russia, the US and China to pull off a soft landing on the moon.
It is the most complex mission ever attempted by India’s space agency.”It is the beginning of a historical journey of India towards the moon,” said Isro chief K Sivan in a speech after the launch.
He thanked and congratulated the nearly 1,000 scientists, engineers and other staff who had worked on the mission: “It is my duty to salute all the people who have done the work.”
“We bounced back in flying colours after the earlier technical snag. Success is coming after a call-off,” said a beaming and visibly relieved ISRO Chairman K Sivan at the mission control room of
NASA on Monday congratulated its Indian counterpart ISRO on the successful launch of its second moon mission Chandrayaan-2 and said “it was looking forward to know what the Indian space agency learns about the lunar south pole.”
Chairman M Venkaiah Naidu, also congratulate the scientists by saying, “the feat had enhanced the country’s pride and confidence. Further, it represents a golden chapter in the history of not only the development of science and technology in India but the country itself.”
Parliament on Monday congratulated ISRO scientists for the successful launch of Chandrayaan-2, saying the achievement represents a golden chapter in the country’s history.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi praised the mission for being “fully indigenous”.
The HRD Ministry on Monday encouraged students to take up careers in aerospace engineering and said its ‘Swayam’ portal will offer online courses on the subject from July 29.
