This is truly an ‘action’ movie, in that a plot has very little role to play. Extraction is about mercenary soldier Tyler Rake who is sent to Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh, to retrieve the kidnapped son of a crime lord from the clutches of a rival gang. Pretty standard, baddie hero saves the day by shooting, punching and causing general choreographed mass destruction. The movie follows the Marvel schtick but lacks a lot of the entertainment value.
Extraction is the debut directorial venture of Sam Hargrave, previously credited with action sequences in Marvel movies. The script is by Joe Russo, one half of the Russo brothers, also best known for their work with Marvel. If you’re looking for some mindless action entertainment, this could be your pick to stream tonight. If you like a little nuance, heart and story in your film-watching experience, you can skip this one.
