Halfway through the Asia Cup 2018, while Bangladesh was playing against Sri Lanka, Bangladesh opener Tamim Iqbal has suffered a fractured left wrist and later his one hand show with fractured hand wins the heart of cricket fans.
During the match on Sunday, Tamim opened the batting, went off the field with a wrist injury, was rushed to the hospital for scans, discovered a fracture that could send him home early, and then heroically batted again at No. 11 which helped to make 32-run alliance with Mushfiqur Rahman.
Although he was not supposed to take the field after it was confirmed that he had a fracture, the left-hander surprised everybody when he came out to bat at number 11 and played only one delivery with only his right-hand.
“I was really surprised that Tamim came out to bat. It shows his character and commitment to the team. It is a great gesture,” said Mushfiqur, a Bangladesh batsman in the Asia Cup.
Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the on-going Asia Cup because of the fractured wrist having picked up the injury for at least six weeks which make sense that he is not contributing on this Asia Cup anymore.
The news will certainly hamper Bangladesh’s plans for the tournament as Iqbal was the man in form for the Bangla Tigers. He played a key role for the team in their recent triumph over West Indies in ODIs, scoring two centuries in three matches.
“Medical reports have revealed that there is a fracture on his left wrist,” informed team manager Khaled Mahmud after getting the results back from the hospital “As to the rest of the Asia Cup, I am not saying that he is ruled out of the tournament. We will assess within two-three days’ time and a decision will be taken”.
